Sr. Josephine Mendez

Sr. Josephine MENDEZ (Josephine of the Sacred Heart) passed away on 29-07-2017 in the afternoon at around 1.p.m. at Maria Assunta Convent, Pune. Sr. Josephine was suffering from Alzheimer’s for number years and had become dependent although she could move about with the help of sisters.  She had completely lost her memory and speech. She was not able to communicate her difficulties or what was happening to her, she suffered silently offering her pains and struggles to the Lord. She was quite well and normal as usual, previous day was feeling feverish, this afternoon as she was having her lunch, Sr. Josephine developed a little discomfort, the community sisters rushed to her side to assist her. Within a few minutes she breathed her last gently and peacefully surrounded by the sisters praying for. Her call was rather sudden and unexpected, yet we believe she is enjoying with her Master.

Sr. Josephine was a loving, kind and compassionate person. She was a joyful, dedicated, generous, capable and a dynamic religious, gave herself willingly in whatever ministry she was entrusted with. She was in education ministry and loved to inculcate value based education to the children. She was appointed animator in many communities; she performed this ministry with love and commitment to the sisters and the Institute. She had special love for the poor would go out of her way to reached out them. She was sociable and approachable, people loved her particularly the poor. She loved our FMM spirit and lived the Franciscan values joyfully; she spent a few years in Ishalaya Ashram in Palmaner. She was a prayerful person, lived her religious life with joy and grace. May Sr. Josephine enjoy love and peace of the Lord in paradise.
