Loving Tribute to Sr. Soosaiammal (M. Barnabas) fmm)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
      Matthew 11:28-30

Birth: 02.09.1931 - Death: 22.11. 2019

Sr. Soosaiammal Jesudas was born on 2nd September, 1931 to Mr. Jesudas and Mrs. Anna Mariammal at Srivalliputhur, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She had deep faith in God, lived her consecration as a witness to her family and others, as she was the only convert from a Hindu family. She was a simple, loving, pleasant, happy and quiet person; a very hard working, loyal, zealous and committed missionary.  Her love for the marginalized (Hansen patients in particular) is still strongly remembered among the people of Tuticorin.

Sr. Soosaimmal spent most of her religious life in community service. She was also involved in pastoral ministry. She did one year of catechetical training in Poonamalee  and taught catechism to children and adults in the villages and in the schools in St. Dominic’s Convent, Chennai.  Besides these she had been in-charge of the farm in Holy Angels’ Convent, T. Nagar, Sacred Heart Convent, Thanjavur and Sacre Coeur Convent, Tuticorin. Her first community was St. Thomas convent, Mylapore  where she was in charge of the Tertiaries. She also cared for the elderly destitute people of St.Thomas Mercy Home, Trichy. She was ever grateful to God and the Institute for her call to the FMM way of life.

Sr. Soosaimmal Jesudas, 88 years old was on follow up treatment for Hypertension and vestibulopathy for more than 5 years in Child Jesus Hospital. She was in Maria Niketan (Infirmary). She had a fall in 2016, fractured her shoulder and underwent surgical correction for it. Since then she was bedridden. In the month of August, she was shifted to Child Jesus Hospital Intensive Care Unit for Sepsis. She did not recover completely. She had altered sensorium and so was kept in the hospital for the needed care. For the last two months she was only on Ryle tube feeds due to her altered sensorium. Since Nov. 15, 2019 she had fever and in spite of treatment, her condition got worse, she became unresponsive and her BP/ Pulse started fluctuating. On Nov.21, 2019 she went into bradycardia and saturation started falling. On Nov. 22, 2019 at 2.00 am she breathed her last due to cardio respiratory arrest. Though long was her suffering she bore it in quiet and with a smile.

We thank God for all the loving services Sr. Soosaiammal rendered to the province and the Institute. May her soul enjoy everlasting peace.
