A glimpse on the life of Sr.Teresa Antony Mattathil (M. of St. Aizan)

“I heard you calling and here I am Lord

Sr. Treasa Antony MATTATHIL (M. of St. Aizan) was born in February 22nd 1926 at Kainakari in Changanasseri, Kerala. At the age of 16 she joined FMM in 1951. She was sent to Sri Lanka for her religious formation and she received the name M of St. Aizan. After the first vows in 1954 she came back to Madras, there she did her nurse’s training in the government hospital. She worked as a nurse in Immaculate Conception Hospital in Coimbatore, Child Jesus Hospital in Trichy, Leprosy Hospital in Manapad and Tuticorin and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Martali.  She was in-charge of dispensaries in Lourdupuram, Kaloor and Cattiparambu.  She served the leprosy patients very lovingly and they loved her.

She was a very faithful and a contented person. She was always cheerful and made others laugh heartily by her witty jokes.

She was faithful for all the services of the community especially to the prayers. She would spend special moments in front of the Blessed Sacrament. She had a deep devotion to Mother Mary and Rosary was always in her hand. Even when she was unable to think of the mysteries or the ejaculations she  held on to the beads. As she was a true missionary of Mary, Mother Mary took her on the feast day of Rosary, on 7th October at 9.30pm, 2019 at St. Elizabeth's Convent, Kattiparambu, Kerala. She was 93 years old and was bedridden since 2015. One week before her death she had fever and she did not respond to any treatment. she was given the Sacrament of the sick three days before her last breathing. In her last moment also, she was radiating the Franciscan joy and she was a real model to all of us.

May her soul rest in Peace!
