The Pieta

The Pieta, the masterpiece of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475 - 1564)

was created originally for a funeral monument and was relocated in St. Peter’s in 18th C.

A piece that arrests thoughts as eyes behold the virgin’s countenance and

the serene majesty of God made man, after the accomplishment of Father’s will.

Mary’s ‘ecce’ makes Christ’s birth possible.

Mary’s contemplative attitude make’s Christ’s growth evident.

Mary’s surrender as an instrument makes salvation actualized.

Mother and Son – in peace, truth and beauty

Manifest a noble serenity.

God’s will is done in history,

In eternity and

For humanity.

       Christ was born;

          Christ was dead,

             Christ is alive and

                  will come again!

                                                                      Alleluia!
