Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

On November 25, 1960, three sisters, Patria Mercedes Mirabal, María Argentina Minerva Mirabal and Antonia María Teresa Mirabal, known as the "Unforgettable Butterflies”, were assassinated in the Dominican Republic on the orders of the Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo. The Mirabel sisters fought hard to end Trujillo's dictatorship. Activists on women's rights have observed a day against violence on the anniversary of the deaths of these three women since 1981. On December 17, 1999, November 25 was designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by the UN General Assembly.

"Violence against women and girls takes many forms and is widespread throughout the globe. […] On this International Day, I urge governments and partners around the world to harness the energy, ideas and leadership of young people to help us to end this pandemic of violence.  Only then will we have a more just, peaceful and equitable world.” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

More than elimination of violence against women, let us strive for the restoration of order through equality of genders. This will enhance a compatible and comfortable living where there is acceptance, support and collaboration in the womb, at home, workplace, society and arena of life at large. Women surely need education and health to be fittingly equipped in order to cope with the stress of life as a valuable and treasured partner of life and not as a slave.

Let men who misbehave towards women and women who are ill disposed towards the welfare of their own gender disappear. Let the upcoming generation be taught to be gentle, polite, courteous to their partners and other women, willing to make life a joyous living together as intended by the Creator

May the Risen Christ who first appeared to women be the stronghold of the women of our day. May Christ the Humble Ruler from the Cross win the hearts of people to seek the Truth and commit to live in Love. Dear Lord, our Father and Mother, let all the women experience the joy of being treated as companions and treasured partners in their life.

May your reign come on earth especially to the people of Palestine and Syria.
