World Refugee day 2013

“1 Family Torn Apart by War is too many”

Taking refuge at moments of disaster is normal and acceptable. But to be uprooted, despoiled of all / little belongings, over night due to a strife, struggle and war is unacceptable.

People fleeing, not knowing where to go.

Drop their loads anywhere for a while

If no objection, continue to stay on and begin to settle.

Once settled, look for a job, livelihood for the welfare of the children. The locality, fitting or not for humans, they accommodate having no other choice. Come day, come night, life goes on helplessly... hand to mouth, at times starved to death, skin and bone...

They are forced to live for years the same drab lot- given the name “Refugee” from somewhere to anywhere, finally nowhere become their home: with no belongings! No rights! Survive till chased again to...???

Voice of refugees:

“The problem is we have no guarantees,’ says Farhad. ‘We have no money for immediate problems. Everything we do is based on debts. But you have to carry on with life. I think about the kids and how to make a better life for them. Until I draw my last breath, everything I do will be for them.”

One had barely eaten for days. She told me, ‘I would rather go back and die there. If they bombed me, I would die immediately. Here it is a slow death.’

The UN says there are over 45 million refugees worldwide, with the number of people displaced at its highest level since 1994. 7.6 million People fled homes in 2012. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says the world's poorest countries are hosting the majority of refugees.

Lord Creator God, You made the land vast enough for all your children to find a place to live respectfully. Yet millions are made nomadic; moving on with no place to claim as their own. Move our hearts to perceive their pain and do something to ease their lot. Let those who desire return home happily and others be given the right to citizenship with all that it implies.
