The Work of God : January 6th 2007 -130th Anniversary of the Foundation

The Work of God.
January 6th 2007 -130th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Institute of the FMM.
Thousands of Franciscan Missionaries of Mary serving God in all six continents of the world thank and praise God today for His marvelous protection, guidance and manifold blessings upon the Institute.
God’ providence led Blessed Mary of the Passion to Ootacamund (The Nilgris) in South India to begin the Institute of the Missionaries of Mary. On January 5th 1877, Pope Pius IX authorised Mgr. Bardou, the Vicar Apostolic of Coimbatore to found in his diocese the Institute of the Missionaries of Mary. The next day 6th January, the Feast of the Epiphany, a telegram informed Mgr. Bardou of Rome’s decision. This Missionary Institute was affiliated to the Franciscan Order in 1882; since then, has been known as the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary – FMM.
“The first convent to cradle our poverty was called ‘Nazareth’; it was there, in the mountains of India, that God founded our missionary Institute”
                                                                        Blessed Mary of the Passion.
“Let us thank God…for having blessed the foundation of our Institute on the day of the first call of the Gentiles…Faithful to our vocation, may we be the stars of Mary, leading to Jesus, and we shall then continue the Epiphany of the Lord, by helping to manifest Him to (all the) nations.”
                                                                          Blessed Mary of the Passion.
Today 7,286 FMM hailing from nearly 80 nationalities live in international/intercultural communities and serve peoples all over the world irrespective of culture, language and belief. Inspired by Mary’s unconditional yes to God, finding strength for mission in our contemplation of the Eucharist, and in the spirit of St. Francis the FMM live in simplicity according to the Gospel.
We Praise and thank you God our Father and Mother,
For Blessed Mary of the Passion
and the nineteen sisters who braved many hardships to found our Institute.
We gratefully remember the good pastors Mgr. Bardou and Mgr David
who stood by Blessed Mary of the Passion and our fledgling Institute.
Thank you for journeying with us all these years.
Continue to grace us with your guidance
and give us largeness of heart and complete surrender of our wills
to fulfill  your plan for the Institute and for the people whom we serve.
