Please Stop violence to let peace continue

The ULFA carried out a series of attacks targeting Hindi-speaking people since Friday(5th) in the Upper-Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar killing 55 people and wounding 30.

Five policemen and two officials were killed by a landmine as they returned from conducting local polls in Karbi Anglong district, some 260 kilometres from Guwahati, police said.

The violence in Assam is continuing unabated. Even as the Centre says that it would deploy more troops to intensify operations in the state, the ULFA has changed tactics and has now attacked an Army camp.

Condemning the massacre which "singled out peace loving and hard working community of our society", the Assam Governor Lt Gen (retd) Ajai Singh said, "ULFA which claims to be the sentinel of Assamese culture, have by this act of cowardice not only brought shame to the state and its society but at the same time have displayed that they can stoop to any level to serve their own ends".

Railway Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday condemned the recent killings in Assam and termed them as an effort to divide the country on sectarian lines.

"The contribution of people from Bihar in Assam's development is no more a concealed fact. This is (killings) all being done to frighten people and divide the country on sectarian lines," said Lalu at his residence on Sunday.

(UNI) Assam Linguistic Minority Development Board Vice Chairman Chitto Pal has condemned the killings of innocent people by the underground militants of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA).

A Prayer in Distress

Lord, hear my prayer; in your faithfulness listen to my pleading; answer me in your justice.

The enemy has pursued me; they have crushed my life to the ground.

They have left me in darkness like those long dead.

My spirit is faint within me; my heart is dismayed.

Hasten to answer me, Lord; for my spirit fails me.

For your name's sake, Lord, give me life; in your justice lead me out of distress.

- Psalm 143.( The Bible)
