FMM Associates Get together

Walk on as a living Gospel

A gathering of Associates of Franciscan Missionaries of Mary of Chennai was held in Holy Angels’ convent, Chennai.  The theme for the opening prayer was the total Self offering of Blessed Mary of the Passion, BL. Maria Assunta, the seven FMM Martyrs in China and St. Francis of Assisi. Sixty two enthusiastic FMM Associates along with a number of FMM sisters from different communities were present for the meeting.. Sr.Regina Anthonimuthu from Ooty Province was the resource person. Sister spoke about the life and spirituality of Mary of the Passion.

The second session was conducted by Fr.Kirupakaran, of Tuticorin diocese. He explained the laity’s place in the Church, their rights and their responsibilities of belonging to the Catholic Church.

When he shared about his encounter with the person of our Foundress, the group was awe struck. It was in response to produce a documentary on Mary of the Passion and her mission that he discovered the richness of her life history, spiritual life, and mission. The production fittingly authenticates the same. Sr. Leena D’souza thanked Fr.Kirupakaran and shared her own encounter with Mary of the Passion which she experienced when she was in Holy Angels.

Sr. Angel Mary gave the group information about our FMM website and the province e-mail ID. She invited the members to actively participate and benefit from it.

Associates, from each unit came forward   and shared their experience of being FMM associates: -how spending quality time before the Blessed Sacrament gives them lots of satisfaction and their faith is strengthened.

 - They found meaning in life and live it to the full and do the daily work with love and commitment

- They have experienced the healing touch of the Lord and have cultivated a generous heart to share their material things with the poor and the needy.

- They grow in gospel values by being patient with one another, loving and forgiving everyone, and in selfless service to the needy.

-   They go to visit elderly and sick people. They had group sharing where they discussed and made their Action Plan for each unit. The general assembly will meet twice a year. The meeting ended with a Prayer. They are convinced that they are called to walk on as a living Gospel by reading and reflecting on the life of Mary of the Passion and doing service concretely in their units will impact others to join as Associates.

Feedback from the AFMMs!

“This meeting evoked a response in me that there is a need to nourish ourselves with the Word of God, strengthen my love and devotion to Mother Mary of the Passion. I am determined to visit the chapel at Tuticorin and some day may be to visit her home town at Nantes, France. This meeting has energized me to move forward and continue the work of Mary of the Passion.”Mrs. Philomena Marianandam.

“The sharing left a strong impression on me. Lunch break gave me the time to contemplate the great sacrifice of Mary of the Passion who founded a strong Institute which spread and integrated into most cultures, forming a Universal fraternity. Sr.Leena, our provincial shared how Blessed Mary of the Passion had touched the lives of the people of other religions who had never known her or heard about her. After this bountiful sharing, I went home and shared the same with my family and thus Mother has become part of the family. My daughter on hearing all about Blessed Mary of the Passion, was inspired and felt close to her. And she puts her photo under the pillow of her 6 months old child. I too have experienced her powerful intercession. Many years ago I went to Rome with my family and had the privilege of visiting the tomb of Blessed Mother Mary of the Passion.

As we are AFMM friends, we too like Mother Mary of the Passion must come forward to show love and affection for our Lord Jesus by rendering a helping hand to the poor and needy. Thank you for the wonderful gathering of AFMMs”!
