The first missionary religious congregation for women in the history of the Church and the world is the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary founded in 1877 by BL. Mary of the Passion, now in the 139th year of its course.

Seminar on the draft of the New education policy 2016


The meeting was held on 16th July 2016 at St. Bede's Auditorium.  The attendance was astounding. The auditorium was packed to its capacity with those involved in the field of Education in the whole of Tamil Nadu...The days programme was to critique The Draft on national Education Policy by eminent  scholars, lawyers and heads of Institutions under the leadership of our CSI and Catholic Bishops.

 Fr. Xavier Arulraj, Senior advocate, legal cell of TNBC, introduced the topic in its true light; Dr. Madhangi Subramanian, Education Research Analyst from Delhi, made us probe into the question of Equity; Dr. Fr. Joe Arun S.J, Director, Joseph Institute of Management  emphasized the danger of the policy and how it can kill education. Numerous other eminent  persons contributed their share while Sr. Philo FBS, Superior General, only  woman religious did justice both in content and in the  manner of rendering in the vernacular to the interest of all gathered.                        

The presence of Fmms was strong along with a group of teachers from all institutions.
