Women take the lead

                             WHEN WOMEN TAKE THE LEAD…

The feast of Our lady of Assumption was celebrated in St. Sebastian’s Church at Balaramapuram from August 11 to 15, 2016 with much devotion and religious fervour. The concelebrated high mass on August 15 was presided over by Rev. Fr. Sherin CM.  In his homily, three qualities of Mary namely co-redemptorist, mediatrix and an advocate was highlighted. Soon after the mass decorated statue of Mother Mary was taken in procession around the church by the women members of Legion of Mary on their shoulders. It was a blessed moment which displayed the manifestation of the faith of women. When the suggestion regarding the celebration of the feast in a unique manner was put forward to Rev. Fr. Joy Mathias, the parish priest, it was well accepted. This event was highlighted even in the print media as it was for the first time in the history of the church in Balaramapuram, which comes under the Latin diocese of Neyyattinkara, that women took the lead under the guidance of Sr. Rajamma FMM, the animator of Legion of Mary, to celebrate the feast of Our Lady as well as to decorate and carry her statue. It was their desire to offer themselves to Mother Mary in prayer and seek her motherly protection. The event also brought a whole new sense of zest, joy and dignity to all especially the women of the locality. On this grace filled day, Curia of Legion of Mary under Neyyattinkara diocese was also installed by. Fr. V.P Jose, the Regional Coordinator, Neyyattinkara. More than 500 women participated in the celebration.
