Sr. Seeli's mission experience in Morocco

My mission experiences in Morocco 2013 -2016

“Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night

I will go Lord if you lead me

I will hold your people in my heart.”

It is the grace of God that I got an occasion to go to Morocco forshort time mission. My mission was with the migrants in a center called SAM (Welcome Service to Migrants) at Casablanca. I need to be with the children while their mothers were occupied with their work. The mothers had the computer class, language classes (French and English), tailoring class andthey were in the kitchen preparing midday meals. It is good to be with the little ones who are innocent, dependent, joyful and simple. They let go the past easily and always happy to be in the present with newness.

Since I took care of the children I had the opportunity of meeting the mothers.  Sometimes I could listen to their problems and difficulties of their life. Few of them were able to sharewith me their hard reality withconfidence. I could comfort only by listening to themattentively. They were happy to see their children in the center (SAM) that has the atmosphere of safety. There the important mission was my meaningful presence among the migrants. It was a unique and special mission and I did it for one year.

“When I was weary you helped me find rest

When I was anxious you calmed all my fears

When I was lonely you gave me your love …”

The mission with the people of Morocco

Another chance of doing my mission was in a school for two years. The school is run by the sisters of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary at Marrakesh. My past experiences in schools helped me to enter in to the rhythm of the school easily. Moroccans are very welcoming and their smile is remarkable. The students are very disciplined and polite.Obedient to the elders is par excellence in them. They inherit this quality from their family. They like Indians. They loved me and they liked to talk with me. I was very affectionate and kind towards them. The parents of the students were good to me and they related with me cordially. Working with the Moroccans gave me a chance to learn their culture, tradition and history to certain extend.I felt one among them in the school andnot as a foreigner.

Moroccans so believe in Godthat they pray at any place. I have seen them praying not only in mosques but also on pavements and in small corners. We can see them praying in small groups or individually. They are very conscious of God’s presence in their life. They pray five times a day. It is a thrilling experience for me to live and search God with Muslims. They have shown a way of welcoming God in life. That is often also the way of faith. Yes, these words are not the vain words in this country. What joy in taking consciousness thus!  There remains lot to undertake for living and searching God with our brothers Muslims in Morocco at present.

To live my religious life in the international community was a good experience for me.  All the sisters were sent for the mission to Morocco and so they are all foreigners. That is another reality.

I thank God for all that He has been to me and for all that He has done for me. I owe the institute for allowing me to go for a mission out of thecountry for 3 years. I am grateful to the sisters who had been the instrument of God to make this special plan of God possible for me in my life.
