A flight on the wings of mercy, Kerala

A flight on the wings of mercy

“Our dream became a reality;we are the VIPs of the day’’, these were the expressions of Rajesh and Roy when they were welcomed by Indigo Airways at Kochi.  Rajesh and Roy are the students in Buds school in Kumbalanghi, a remote village at Kochi, Kerala. Buds schools are run by the government for the mentally challenged children with various impediments. On 5th September 2016   Our Lady's Convent Girls Higher Secondary School staff went to this Buds school to honour the teachers for their dedicated service. The students there expressed two of their dreams, to travel by air and to meet the Chief Minister of the state, Kerala.

The innocent request of these helpless children touched our hearts and Sr. Lizzy Chakkalakkal took up the initiative to fulfill the dreams with the help of a benefactor. A business man from Confident Group sponsored all the expenses of their journey .On13th December 2016 these students travelled from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram. The air crew at the air port received us warmly.

At Thiruvananthapuram airport, George G. Tharakan, the director of Confident Group gave flowers and welcomed these differently abled children. Then they were taken by an air bus to Magic Planet run by an international magician called Gopinath Muthukad. They spent the day watching magic and circus.

Mr. Gopinath availed himself to interact with these special children and made them happy. In the evening we went to the Secretariat to meet the chief minister of Kerala. In spite of his busy schedule, the honorable chief minister Mr.Pinarayi Vijayan spent his time with these children and shared Christmas cake and sweets with them. The students put forward their request to have a school with better facilities. The chief minister expressed his special love for them and the entire staff at his office was moved by the presence of these cheerful angels. They said that their office was blessed by the presence of these surprising angels. The children distributed Christmas cakes to them

We had the privilege of travelling with these specially abled children as a part of Nallapadam Project which is introduced by a leading print media called Malayala Manorama. Our joy was doubled when Sr. Pushpa Joseph, our provincial joined us for the trip. Her vibrant presence and compassionate approach brought a difference throughout this adventurous journey. She supports and encourages us to make our education ministry relevant. It was indeed a memorable experience for all of us who accompanied these special angels.
