Santoshi Nagar, Gujarat

 Santhoshi Nagar- Naroda- Gujarat

Tuition classes are the greatest help that assist the children to perform well in examination and school. At Santhoshi Nagar tuition centre, we have 52 children from class 1st to 9th who are full of potential, energetic and talented, but without moral and economical support.  All the children have enrolled their names in different schools. We as a community work together in helping and supporting the very poor and vulnerable children and families.  Sr. Sumalatha with the help of another teacher gives tuition classes for the children who are very weak in studies and teach them according to their level. She teaches them moral, cultural and social values.

Every Saturday we conduct number of activities and give them prizes to boost the young minds with skills, values, self worth and confidence. We conduct different competitions for children such as singing, dancing, drawing and group activities.  It is an opportunity for them to rediscover their creative powers and engage in the real world.

In our mission of teaching it is a chance to learn from children, to understand the pain of poor parents in trying to educate their children, in the midst of their struggles for daily livelihood. It is wonderful to see how the children have developed over the years with so much of confidence and higher self esteem.

Sr. Sumalatha thoroughly enjoys meeting the poor children who are always welcoming her with their sweet smiles.

Every month  community  sisters  conduct programmes for women and children  on different topics  like importance of prayer,  hygiene, Self  discipline, good manners and women rights to develop  healthy  living. Our whole community work together and visit the families on Sundays.

Women empowerment is one of the sustainable developments in the society.

Our  beloved foundress  Bl. Mary of the passion, has envisioned  young women  who  would  be  the  pillars of the family and agents of  social change in the world.   She believed that “The best way to love people is to come to their aid in times of suffering and difficulties by working with them and empowering them.”

Keeping this in mind   we as a community planned and   started tailoring for the women in Santhoshi Nagar and 20 women have   enrolled their names for learning. Sr. Jyothi helps them along with one more teacher. With the support of Sr. Jyothi   they now have learned to stitch small bags, blouses, frocks, salvers Kurtas, sari petticoats .etc...... Four women have finished tailoring. Sr. Jyothi is not only a teacher to them but also a patient listener to the pains and struggles of their families. She gives practical advice to the women on how to take care of their family members and to be responsible citizens in the world. She appreciates them and spends lot of time in encouragaring and supporting them.

On 14th of December our provincial Sr.  Theresa Thomas visited Santhoshi Nagar. She gave a meaningful message about how they need to strive to come up in life. Her visit and message brought good wishes and blessings to the children and women.

We as a community are happy to live together and experience the beauty of working together for the poorest of the poor. We believe that women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.
