FAREWELL AND CERTIFICATION CEREMONY FOR HOME NURSING STUDENTS -BATCH 1

SUDAR (Socially United for Development and Access to Resources) is a project that was launched a year ago by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, Chennai Province to facilitate a range of developmental activities for the subaltern community, primarily for the women, single mothers and the transgenders who are not only subjugated but also denied their basic rights. 

In order to provide employment opportunities and make them self-reliant, we launched a 3 month Home Nursing course completely free.  Home Nursing course is also known as bedside nursing where it focuses on care taking of the geriatric, palliative and patients at the hospitals. The course was taken at St. Raphael’s School, Mylapore by a facilitator Mrs. Ashareyona who is a License Holder for Adult Basic Life Support.  The course started on 5th of July, 2021 with 20 students. For the first 2 months, theory classes were taken using the medical equipments in the classroom. In the third month, students were sent for one month internship at Venkateshwara hospital, Nandanam. After completing the course, a practical and theoretical exam was conducted for the assessment. 

On 6th October, 2021, the certification programme organised for the Students of Home Nursing with Sr. Nirmala, Provincial as Chief Guest.  The programme was hosted by Mrs. Karpagam a student of Home Nursing batch 1. The programme commenced with a bible reading and a prayer song, followed by a welcome address rendered by Mrs. Edal Quinni Diana.  Home nursing facilitator Mrs. Ashareyona was invited to present the 3 months Home Nursing Course Report. She highlighted the syllabus of the course and how the batch 1 students were trained during these 3 monthsThe whole programme was conducted by the students of batch 1 Home Nursing Course.

 

After the cultural events got over, Sr. Nirmala was invited to deliver the chief guest speech. She encouraged the students to work hard with the new skill that they had learned. Following the speech, certificates were distributed. Ms. Gayathri and Ms. Vijaya Shanthi shared their experience of learning home nursing. Ms. Gayathri stated that the home nursing course has turned her life upside down in a positive way.   It is also worth mentioning that Ms. Gayathri has secured a job in Venkateshwara hospital where they had done the internship. At the end, vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Gayathri.
